BITTER MELON

September 29 @ 4:00 pm - 5:40 pm

DIRECTED BY H.P. MENDOZA | USA | 100 MIN

“When people say they want apologies, they really want blood.”

Family can be a tricky thing. Set in San Francisco, H. P. Mendoza’s Bitter Melon is the story of a family reunion during the Christmas season with a dark, comedic twist. Declan (Jon Norman Schneider) is home from New York, but he dreads the idea of seeing his family. His older brother, Moe (Brian Rivera) also dreads coming home, but for a completely different reason. Neither is looking forward to seeing their abusive brother, Troy (Patrick Epino) who is a constant threat to everyone and everything in their home. When things go awry, Declan decides to take matters into his own hands. Bitter Melon is an intelligent and comedic family drama that proves that blood is thicker than water.  — Ben Cahlamer, Electric Bento
